When the flowering spring flowers are done, a 1-inch purple fruit will develop which is a draw for the birds in your area.  The foliage of the tree turn a maroon-red in the summer and fall.  The Newport Plum grows to 15 feet in height with an equal spread.  Its spreading branches create a rounded crown.  It’s a hardy tree requiring little maintenance and not bothered by deer.
